Research on Family Decision Making Mechanism of Urban Elderly in Nursing Home

The paper describes the family decision-making mechanism on the literature review from the decision subject, content and time.According to the participation and power status of the elderly in decision-making, family decisions can be divided into four types: elderly-led, son-led,joint-negotiation and daughter-led. According to the findings of the survey, the elderly are the dominant role of proposed and decision makers, their adult children are mainly involved in the role of agents and implementation decisions. There are nearly half of the proportion of adult children obtain information or check in.In terms of decision-making time, the short-term emergency response was shown. In the decision-making process, almost half of all the elderly related matters were completed by their children both in terms of information acquisition and formalities. From the gender differences in caregivers, the son remains the primary caregiver for the elderly. Regardless of taking care of decision-making, financial support or formalities, such as undertaking specific matters, the proportion of sons were significantly higher than their daughters. At the same time, sons play a more prominent role than daughters in participation and representation of decision makers in the elderly. Overall, the family decision-making patterns of urban elderly living in nursing home are dominated by the elderly, and the role of children mostlyis agents and sons' role is more significant than their daughters.
