Deforming Behavior of 40vol% Tungsten Fiber Reinforced Zr_(41.25)Ti _(13.75)Ni_(10)Cu_(12.5)Be_(22.5)Bulk Metallic Glass

The deformation and fracture behaviors of 40vol% tungsten reinforced Zr_(41.25)Ti_(13.75)Ni_(10)Cu_(12.5)Be_(22.5) bulk metallic glass (BMG) were studied by using Instron Univeral-Testing Machine (IUTM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) under monaxial compression at room temperature. The samples experienced the elastic and plastic deformation processes in quasi-static monaxial compression test before fracture, and no work hardening is found during the plastic deformation. Plastic deformation occurred to metallic glass base in the mode of slipping relative to the shearing band W fiber showed the ductile tearing behaviors. The microscopic morphology of the fracture indicated the failure pattern of samples is longitudinal split with bend. Normal stress makes an important effect on the deformation and development of the shear band.
