Synthesis of Musk Tibetene Using a Mixture of C9 Heavy Aromatics

A novel process to prepare musk tibetene using mixture of C9 heavy aromatics was proposed.The influence of reaction time, reaction temperature and molar ratio, etc. on the product yield were evaluated through examination. An optimum operation conditions for synthesis and purification of musk tibetene were found as follows: the mass ratio of A100 catalyst to 1,2,3-trimethybenzene was 1:50, reaction temperature 10 ℃, reaction time was 3h, with nitro-sulfuric acid as nitration agent, reaction temperature was 20 ℃~70 ℃, and reaction time 4hr. Musk tibetene was purified by recrystallization with 95% alcohol. This process had many advantages, such as simple procedure, short reaction period, cheap raw material available, high yield etc. So this synthetic process has good prospect for industrialization.
