PRIMARY STUDY ON PHYSIOLOGICAL REACTION OF TWO TREE SPECIES TO SALT STRESS

Physiological reactions are important aspects in salt-resistant tree species selection. Pot culture experiments were carried out to find out the resistant capacity of Populous popularis and [WT5”BX]Fraxinus velutina seedlings under 0,0 2%,0 4%,0 6%,0 8%,1 0% concentrations of NaCl solution. Four indices including evaporation rate, chlorophyll content, MDA(Malonic aldehyde),proline were compared between the two species. The result shows that growth of both species were hindered under salt stress,and with the increasing of NaCl concentration the evaporation rate and chlorophyll content went down while MDA and proline accumulation increased. F. velutina has higher salt resistant capacity than P.Popularis.
