Application of gas heat exchangers with perforated supporting plate in sulphuric acid production

The gas heat exchanger consisting of plain tubes or contracted expanded tubes supported by perforated plate was developed for conversion section of sulphuric acid plant on the basis of a comprised consideration of heat transfer enhancement and convenience in making and construction. The heat exchanger adopts a small diameter shell that just can hold all tubes and supporting plate in which some holes are drilled around tubes. Gas on shell side of heat exchanger flows parallelly along tube wall and turbulence is created by contraction and expansion of gas passing through the holes in the supporting plate.Practical operation proved that the heat exchanger had low pressure drop and good heat transfer performance.
