Development and application of a sulphuric acid process with bypass cycle pre-conversion and pre-absorption for high-concentration SO_2 off-gas

The development of a sulphuric acid process with bypass cycle pre-conversion and pre-absorption for high-concentration SO2 off-gas and its application in Jinlong Copper No. 1 sulphuric acid system are described with respects to the process principle,flow and equipment configuration. A stream of high-concentration off-gas from main blower was drawn and sent to a pre-conversion and preabsorption system.The gas from pre-absorber was split into two streams,one passing to the inlet of pre-conversion blower to adjust SO2 concentration of off-gas entering pre-converter,and the other passing to the main system and combined with the remaining off-gas to produce sulphuric acid. The installation of pre-conversion and pre-absorption system allowed the existing sulphuric acid plant to treat offgas with SO2 concentration of more than 17%,as well as increased operational flexibility and overall convention efficiency.
