The process design of a 200 kt /a pyrite-based sulphuric acid is described with respects to its plant layout,equipment selection and design of auxiliary devices. The plant was designed to operate in a 3+2 double conversion process with domestic catalyst for first-stage conversion and imported catalyst for second-stage conversion and the total conversion was targeted at 99. 8%. This allowed a decrease in investment cost,while eliminating the need for installing tail gas desulphurization system.
