Review on Monitoring of Lake Water Quality with the Remote Sensing Technology in Arid Areas of the West China

Monitoring of lake water quality is a very essential but time-consumed work. The conventional routine of water quality monitoring is to make sampling, to collect water samples, then to analyze the samples in lab. It is not possible to make overall monitoring to the lakes with a large scale. By reviewing the development process of water quality monitoring, this paper introduces research progress on water quality monitoring with remote sensing technology, such as monitoring principle and method, parameter and remote sensing data source. Meanwhile, the necessity and feasibility, of which the remote sensing technology is used to monitor lake water quality in west arid areas, are discussed.
