On English Translation Strategies for Tour Guiding Based on Intercultural High/Low Context Theory

Tour guiding commentary represents abundant spiritual and material civilization of a nation and plays a vital role in the international communication. Due to the complex social and cultural background, different national aesthetical appreciation habits and various language traditions, translating tour commentary is very challenging. The present translation practice, based on theories of functional category of translation criticism, holds that tour commentary should be translated as vocative texts. However, intercultural communication offers translators more convincing methods from a more practical perspective. Hall's high/low-context theory is better to text information adaptation, text image analogy adaptation and other workable strategies that can improve tour commentary translations.
