The changes of β Ep in newborns with asphyxia and neonatal rats with hypoxic ischemic brain damage

Xin Ying,Han Yukun,chen Ning.Department of Pediatrics,The 2nd Clinical Colege of China Medical University,Shenyang 110003
Objective To study the effect of βeta endorphin(β Ep) on hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(HIE).Methods Levels of β Ep in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 35 newborns with asphyxia, and levels of β Ep and water content in brains of 24 neonatal rats with hypoxic ischemic brain damage(HIBD) were measured by radio immuno assay. Results β Ep levels of plasma and CSF were higher in acute stage of asphyxia than that of control group, the concentration of β Ep and water content was significantly increased in the cerebral cortex of neonatal rats with HIBD.Compared with sham operated group.Level of β Ep had a significant positive correlation with water content. Conclusion β Ep may be a pathogenic factor of HIE.
