The changes of β Ep in newborns with asphyxia and neonatal rats with hypoxic ischemic brain damage

Objective To study the effect of βeta endorphin(β Ep) on hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(HIE).Methods Levels of β Ep in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 35 newborns with asphyxia,and levels of β Ep and water content in brains of 24 neonatal rats with hypoxic ischemic brain damage(HIBD) were measured by radio immuno assay.Results β Ep levels of plasma and CSF were higher in acute stage of asphyxia than that of control group,the concentration of β Ep and water content was significantly increased in the cerebral cortex of neonatal rats with HIBD.Compared with sham operated group.Level of β Ep had a significant positive correlation with water content.Conclusion β Ep may be a pathogenic factor of HIE.
