Study on the Properties of Oriented Strandboards Overlaid with Bamboo Sheets

Commercial oriented strandboards were overlaid with bamboo sheets in the form of woven mat or curtain and the main physical and mechanical properties of overlaid boards were measured The influences of overlay materials, resin application methods and assembly patterns were analyzed by comparing the properties of different overlaid boards with that of OSB The results showed that the overlaid boards were superior to OSB in main physical and mechanical properties and also in strength retention after aging (2 hour's immersion in boiling water) Under the experimental conditions of this research, i e , resin application amount 200 g/m 2, hot pressing temperature 160℃, hot pressing time 6 minutes with a pressure of 1 5 MPa,the bonding strength between bamboo sheets and OSB was higher than that of the internal bond of OSB The thickness swelling of overlaid boards was reduced to about 1/3 of that of OSB The strength and stiffness of overlaid boards were depending greatly on the sheet forms and assembly patterns, nevertheless the resin application methods (spreading or impregnating) had little influence, As to the modulus of rupture and elasticity, the overlaid board with bamboo curtains were parallel to OSB was the best in the parallel direction, but it's MOR ⊥ and MOE ⊥ were lower than that of OSB When the OSB was overlaid with bamboo woren mats or with curtains perpendicular to OSB, the  MOR and MOE both in parallel and perpendicular direction were elevated greatly
