The Translation of Terms and Conditions of International Trade from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence——A Case Study of DHL and TNT

Against the backdrop of maturely developed internet shopping circumstances,the arising express delivery industry has become an important part of people's daily life. Owning to the information asymmetry across the international express,it has led to all different kinds of disputes which draw people 's attention of knowing the translation difference of these terms and conditions,and how to avoid the uncertainty of its transportation. Directed by the functional equivalent theory,international express terms and conditions written on the backside of the express waybill will be discussed. Here are the examples of DHL and TNT companies which are the top two international express companies across the world. All the data collected from the published official website in the type of EnglishChinese contrast. In order to find the similarities and difference between the express terms and conditions and the general scientific English translation,the author analyses the characteristics of these texts,and discovers the translation strategy of the terms and conditions in the express delivery industry.
