Re-routing algorithms for Double-layer Printed wiring boards

Shen Lin, Zhong Lin and Tong Fu (Chongqing University)
Rerouting scheme is an important and difficult problem yet to be solved in automated routing. Algorithms based on re-routing techniques used by human experts are described in this paper. In this scheme, some modifications (weak modification) are made to connect blocked nets. Weak modifications relocate part of the existing paths while maintaiting all existing connections. The lip-up (strong modification) removing segments of nets already routed to make room for a blocked connection should be invoked only when weak modification fails. Finally, good results and high efficiency can be achieved by so doing.
