An Incremental Σ-Δ Modulator with Offset Cancelling Technique

Based on theory of incremental sigma-delta modulator,a third-order feed-forward incremental sigmadelta modulator was modeled and simulated with Matlabs Simulink tool.Nonideal facters which degraded the performance of sigma-delta modulator was analyzed,including clock jitter noise,switch capacitor thermal noise,operational amplifier noise and nonideal integrators parameters.Simulation results indicated that the signal noise ratio was 98.2dB and the effective number of bits was 16.02.With offset cancellation technique,circuit and layout of the sigma-delta modulator were designed in GSMC 0.18μm standard CMOS technology.Spice post simulation results indicated that the signal noise ratio was 92.79 dB and the effective number of bits was 15.12.
