Numerical Investigation on Collecting Efficiency of Particles with Different Sizes by Cyclone Dust Collector

Cyclone dust collectors have the features of high collecting efficiency and compact size. The model of a cyclone dust collector with a given size is built,and the separation of the tiny particles from the air is numerically analyzed. The results indicate that the optimal inlet speed of the air and particles is 15 m/s. In this case,the collecting efficiency can be maximized to be 88.89%. When the inlet speed of the air and particles is less than 15 m/s,the collecting efficiency is decreasing with the decreasing speed. While if the inlet speed of the air and particles is more than 15 m/s,the collecting efficiency has a small drop because more particles are suspending in the collector. With the increasing of the inlet speed of air and particles, the pressure loss and the energy consumption are both increasing.
