Analyzing the Phenomenon of University Teachers Following an Official Career

REN Chu ming, YANG Rui yong (Institute of Education Science, Hunan Normal University, Changsha 410081 China)  
Currently many university professors, because of their excellent achievements in scholarship, follow an official career. The factors contributing to this phenomenon are manifold, including the influence of traditional Chinese culture, the overspread of administrative powers and official rank standard, the notion of taking administrative positions as a means to urge the renowned scholars to stay, and the idea of making use of their reputation as celebrities.
