Relationship between the change of distribution and proportion of type Ⅰ, Ⅲ collagen in human coronary arteries and coronary atherogenesis

To investwite the chang on the expression of type Ⅰ、Ⅲ procollagen mRNA,the distribution of type Ⅰ、Ⅲ collagen fibers and the proportion of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen amount during formation and development of human coronary atherosclerosis(CAS). Methods The observation of the CAS types and of the change on distribution of type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen in the CAS plaques of specimens collected from the young and old subjects was performed using the stain of HE and picrosirius red;The analysis of expression of type Ⅰ、Ⅲ procollagen mRNA in normal coronary arteries and atherosclerotic plaques was done with the technique of hybridization in situ. Results (1)Along with the development of athrosclerotic lesion,type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen deposition were increased simultaneously in coronay arteries; The expressions of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ procollagen mRNA were up-regulated in plaques. (2)There were more cellular components and cells proliferation as well as predominant augmentation of type Ⅲ collagen fibers in the most plaques of the young subjects,and less numbers of cells and increased amount of type Ⅰ collagen fibers were obtained in most plaques of the aged people. Conclusions The over-expression of tyPe Ⅰ、Ⅲ procollagen mRNA was possibly related to the increase of type Ⅰ、Ⅲ collagen in atherosclerotic lesions; The proliferation of cell and augment of type Ⅰ、Ⅲ collagen and change of proportion of type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen probably played an important role in the development of coronary atherosclerosis.
