Hierarchical control strategy of frequency and reactive power for DFIG wind farm

Active power and frequency control is the key technology for grid integration of wind farm.Based on the analysis of DFIG wind turbine control strategy for load shedding operation and the regulation ability through increasing the wind generator rotor speed, this paper presents a hierarchical control strategy for DFIG wind farm to enhance active power stability and improve the power system frequency stability. The wind farm level allocation strategy and wind turbine level control strategy were designed considering the deloading regulation ability of DFIG wind turbine during different wind region. By the hierarchical control strategy,the power system transient frequency stability can improve as much as possible while meeting the active requirements. The simulation results show that the kinetic energy is stored in the rotor as much as possible when the power system is stable, after power disturbances, the kinetic energy stored in the rotor was rapidly released to response frequency variation, thereby increasing the system frequency stability.
