Evaluation of Integrated Function and Efficiency of Farm Household Ecosystems in a High-yield Fresh Water Fish Production Area.

The integrated function and efficiency ( IFE) of 15 farm households in the suburbs of Linhu Township in Huzhou City of Zhejiang Province were investigated with the integrated evaluation method. The township is famous for its high-yielding fresh water fish production in China. Results showed that only a few farm households reached high levels of IFE. These farm households are characterized by having relatively perfect production tools, making full use of internal resources and establishing close Jinkages among enterprises within the system, being of high levels in terms of production techniques and management, and paying attention to off-farm income during the leisure seasons. The potential for improvement of IFE is high for most farm households of middle and low levels. Water eutrophication, pond pollution and market influence are common problems to all farm households, and effective measures are urgently needed to solve these problems.
