Study on Choosing Energy-Saving Injection Molding Parameters with Mold Flow Analysis

This paper reviewed the related literatures to identify the simple energy consumption models and to survey the important process parameters factors for the injection molding process.A central gate circular plate was used as mold model with the important parameters as Taguchi experimental control factors.In each experiment mold flow analysis software,Moldex3D was used to simulate the actual injection molding process and the simple energy consumption models was also employed to estimate the energy used up.Both the volume shrinkage rate and the total displacement were chosen as quality characteristics.In each experimental process parameter set,the product quality and energy consumption to obtain high quality(low volumetric shrinkage,low total displacement) and the low energy consumption simultaneously were compared.In this case,the significant manufacturing process parameters were packing time and mold temperature,the packing time was among 1 to 2 s,mold temperature was between 25~35 ℃,under which both energy-efficient and high-quality products were obtained.Compared with energy consumption of similar high quality products,it can improve their energy performance by 43%.
