Two-Dimensional Flow Field Numerical Simulation for Vertical Axis Wind Turbines

There are many different types of airfoils that have been used in lift-type vertical axis wind turbines.In this paper,numerical simulation was used to analyze Mach number and Reynolds number in naca0015 airfoil two-dimensional flow field under different attack angle and wind speed conditions.From the curves of lift and drag coefficients,the optimum coefficients were obtained for attack angle of 15°.Under the consideration of surface pressure distribution,velocity diagram,flow chart and the effects of Mach number,Reynolds number on naca0015 airfoil,it was concluded that with the same attack angle and Reynolds number,the lift coefficient of the airfoil increased while the drag coefficient decreased.With small attack angle,low wind speed and the same Mach number,different Reynolds number were used and then it is found that it is more likely to get a stable flow field with smaller Reynolds number.
