Water Quality in Guangzhou Nansha Wetland Park and Impacts by Simulated Acid Rain

Field and laboratory investigations were carried out to evaluate existing water quality in the Guangzhou Nansha Wetland Park.Simulation experiment was also conducted to assess impacts of synthetic acid rain on quality of water samples collected from the study site.The results showed that currently major water quality parameters are in accordance with the permit limits laid out by National Standards.Additional eco-toxicological test results suggested that the water be little either acutely or chronically toxic to the tested organism,Daphnia carinata.However,water samples affected by synthetic acid rain showed strongly acute toxicity to Daphnia carinata when the mixing ratio of synthetic acid rain to wetland water reach a value of density.It suggests that long-term impacts of acid precipitation degrade the water quality in the study site and possibly impede the development of a healthy wetland ecosystem in the Nansha Wetland Park.
