Task-based Teaching of College English and the Design and Application of the Tasks

PENG Kang-zhou(Foreign Languages Institute,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou,Zhejiang 310058,China)  
The classroom design of task-based teaching of college English should reflect the following principles: a combination of open and closed tasks;equal focuses on form and function in the construction of meaning;maximizing the exposure and free use of authentic language on the basis of their experience so as to raise their interest and produce a common feeling between the learners and the text of the target language;specific tasks for specific learners and maximizing involvement of the educational processes.In designing classroom tasks,we should attach equal importance to the development of learning strategies and cross-cultural consciousness as well as individuality.The time of teaching should be guaranteed.With the help of the teachers,the learners are expected to develop their own competence of independent study.
