An Investigation on Fujian Academies

ZHU Jun-ling(Department of History and Social Science,Zhangzhou Normal University,Fujian 363000,China)
Academy was the exclusive educational organization in ancient China, distinguished from the general public and private education organizations. The reason why it got its name lies in the fact that it combined the lecture and research together. It was the place for lecture and research that is served as the standard for the judgment of an academy.According to this, the author of this paper investigates the academies listed in the Appendix III ofAcademies of Various Dynasties in the book A History of Chinese Academies edited by LI Guo-jun.In LI's view,Fujian Academies are not academies,in which there are various departments: reading department, fete department, department for both reading and fete, and printing department. There is another mistake due to the false-division of dynasty,i.e.the Academies in Yuan Dynasty.
