This is a report about the measurement of lysozyme activity of pleural fluid and serum in 103 cases. The results obtained reveal that the lysozyme content is more than 28.1μg/ml in 94%of the cases with tuberculous pleural effusion, and the ratio of lysozyme in pleural fluid to that in serum is greater than 1.0 in 90% of them. Therefore, measurement of lysozyme activity may be considered as an immunogical index for differential diagnosis and therapeutic effect in pleural effusion. In addition, these results showed that there is a parallel relationship between lysozyme and LDH content in the diagnosis of pleural effusion.
