Adaptability Evaluation of WOFOST Simulating Spring Maize Growth in Southeastern Inner Mongolia

Introducing a mature crop model and validating its adaptability can provide the basis for regionalization application. Based on the observed maize data,agrometeorological observation data as well as the local weather and soil data, the model was calibrated using the trial and error method, then was validated through comparing the observed development stage, leaf area index( LAI), biomass of organs and grain yield with that of simulated. The results showed that the model performed well in development stage simulation,the errors between simulated and measured anthesis and maturity date were no more than 6 days,which the simulation results of anthesis date were the better(about 3 days). The simulated and observed of LAI and biomass during the growing stage showed a consensus trend, the determination coefficient R2 passed the significance test. The relative Root Mean Square Error( RMSE) for simulated biomass of organs and yield were between 641 kg·hm-2 to 1414 kg·hm-2, and RMSE for simulated LAI was 1.22. Results showed that by calibration the crop parameter, WOFOST model could satisfactorily simulate the growth stage and biomass dynamical accumulated process of spring maize, and could be applied in spring maize production in southeastern Inner Mongolia.
