Spatio-temporal Analysis of drought of Spring Maize in Ulanqab during 1971—2015

Based on the daily meteorological data at 11 weather stations and spring maize growing investigation data during 1971-2015 In Ulanqab, the water requirement of crop was calculated by using Penman-Monteith equation. Combined with the effective precipitation, the water surplus deficit was calculated meanwhile. On this basis the drought frequency variations during the growing periods of spring maize were analyzed and spatial distribution of drought grades was made, its spatial and temporal variation characteristics of spring maize were revealed. The results could provide important basis for planting zoning and optimizing production distribution of spring maize scientifically and reasonably. The results showed that the light drought happened in higher frequency in the early stage of growth,the moderate drought happened in the highest frequency in all the stage of growth, the severe drought happened in the highest during the tasselling to milk-ripe stage and the extreme drought happened in higher frequency in the late stage of growth; in space, the drought of spring maize presented a zonal distribution with higher in the north and lower in the south, which was related with precipitation distribution with more in the south and less in the north.
