Modeling of Ignition Process in Spark-Ignition Engines

Bi Xiaoping Jiang Deming (Xi'an Jiaotong University)  
A one-dimensional mathematical model for the ignition process in spark-ignition engines was proposed on the basis of the thermal theory of ignition. The critical ignition radius, minimum ignition energy, ignition delay under various working conditions and the effects of engine speed, ignition timing and equivalent fuel-air ratio on it were predicted by the model for two engines as examples.
