The Profound Friendship between Fan Dangshi and Wu Rulun

Fan Dangshi was a famous poet, prose writer and educator in the late Qing Dynasty, whose friends were all over the country. Among of them, Wu Rulun had a decisive influence on Fan' literary creation, personal ambition,family life and interpersonal communication. In the 20 years of interactions, the two men appreciated and trusted each other, discussed poetry and prose, engaged in educational reform, gave moral support to one another, which set a fine example for the relations between ancient Chinese scholars. Wu Rulun was not only a key factor in the marriage and literature between the Fan's family in Tongzhou and the Yao's family in Tongcheng, but also an enthusiastic presenter, resulting in a commoner literati to be a tutor in the prime minister' house. Wu Rulun became an important clue to the Fan Dangshi's study, which can reveal the truth covered up by various rumour and hearsay.
