Experimental study on the proliferation and migration of neural Stem cells in situ in the adult Rats af- ter cerebral infarction

Objective To investigate the proliferation and Migration of neural stem cells in situ in the adult rats after cerebral infarction. Methods Cerebral infarction models of rats were made and the dynamic expression of bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU) and Nestin were determined by immunohistochemistry and im-munofluorescence staining. Results Compared with the controls, the number of Nestin-positive cells and BrdU-positive cells in the subventricular zone (SVZ) and hippocampus increased strikingly at 1 day ( P 0. 05), reached maximum at 7 day, decreased markedly at 14 day, but it was still elevated compared with that of the controls (P0. 05); Nestin-positive cells and BrdU-positive cells in the subventricular zone (SVZ) and hippocampus migrated across the corpus callosum to contralateral side. Conclusion Our results indicate that cerebral infarction stimulated the proliferation and migration of inherent neural stem cells in situ.
