Modeling approach for the biomass-fuelled circulating fluidized bed boiler

Modern techniques for biomass energy utilization include in general direct combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis. Since the end of the 1980s, the circulating fluidized bed has found application in burning of biomass. Some companies and research institutes in China are currently starting to develop the biomass-fuelled circulating fluidized bed boiler. In this presentation, a modeling approach for the biomass-fuelled circulating fluidized bed boiler (BCFBB) was described, which was established on the basis of the existing model for coal-fuelled circulating fluidized bed boilers, acquired results for CFB investigations, and the characteristics of biomass. Calculations for a 35 t/h BCFBB were carried out using the model in order to verify it. The acquired results agree fairly well with the experimental data reported.
