[Aims] Preparation of chlorpyrifos microcapsule with polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)-polypropylene carbonate(PPC) composites as wall material was studied. [Methods] The microcapsules were prepared via emulsion-solvent evaporation method, and PVA-1788 was used as continuous phase. The particle size of microcapsules was measured with laser particle size analyzer, and the morphology was characterized by optical microscopy. The drug-loading, entrapment efficiency and sustained-release performance were investigated by HPLC. [Results] The average particle size of modified PPC microcapsules prepared by melt-mixing with PMMA was 7.15 μm, the drug-loading coefficient was 27.56%, and the entrapment efficiency was 83.77%. The release period was 33 d, which was longer than microcapsules prepared with PPC as wall material. [Conclusions] Modified microcapsules overcome the shortcomings on biodegradability, slow release period, in addition, it has high drug-loading coefficient and entrapment efficiency.
