Crime Trends in the Western World and in Hungary in the Last Five Decades

In order to accurately assess the level of crime,we should multipurpose use of three kinds of statistical methods of crime data:the official crime statistics,self reported studies,crime victimization survey.In the past 50 years,the number of crime in the western countries and Hungary have experienced rapid growth,and then marked drop.According to the International Crime Victim Survey,the United States Uniform Crime Report,and die official crime statistics in Hungary,we can find that some theories,putted forward by some criminologists,which used to explain this change are questioned.So reviewing the determinants of crime was needed.Finally,the author analyzes the relationship between Criminology and criminal policy from the Hungary penal code revised angle,and pointed out that along with the change in the role and the position of contemporary Criminology,the influence and impact of which on the crime policy decreased,the connection between Criminology and the policy weakened.Therefore,as for some questions including where the 21 st Century Criminology will go and how to deal with the postmodern social challenges,we need to keep making efforts.
