Effect of Temperature on the Growth Rate,Cell Volume and Biochemical Composition of Heterosigma akashiwo Hada:An Experimental Study

The effect of temperature on the growth rate,cell volume and cell biochemical composition of Heterosigma akashiwo was studied experimentally.The results showed that temperature ranging from10℃to 30℃ was suitable for the normal growth of H.akashiwo.The highest growth rate was observed at 25℃,which was considered as the optimum for the growth of H.akashiwo.Cell volume of H.akashiwotended to decrease when temperature increased,reaching the maximum(823.89μm3)at 10 ℃ and touched the minimum(387.98μm3)at 25℃.Further analysis indicated that there was a negative correlation between lg(cell volume)and lg(growth rate)of H.akashiwo(P0.05).When temperature increased from 10℃to 25℃,it was found that cell carbon and nitrogen contents of H.akashiwo decreased significantly while cell carbon and nitrogen contents per unit volume of H.akashiwo changed in a singlepeak type and the peak was found at 15℃.However,cell chlorophyll acontent and cell chlorophyll acontent per unit volume both tended to increase with temperature.Results indicated that cell C∶Chl aand N∶Chl aof H.akashiwo decreased first and then increased,reaching the greatest at 10 ℃ and touched the least at 25 ℃.
