Discussion on the issues about inhospital management of hepatic encephalopathy

Hepatic encephalopathy(HE) is a neuropsychiatric and functional syndrome ranging from altered mental status to deep coma,based on metabolic disorders,caused by acute or chronic liver failure or portal-systemic shunt. The pathogenesis is complex which centers with hyperammonia and inflammation together resulting in astrocyte swelling,then edema. The pathogenesis and therapy as wellas its efficacy,safety are still being studied.Here only how to optimate the inhospital management of HE is reviewed.
