Application of Temperature Responsive Polymer with Poly(N-vinylcaprolactam)in Drug Delivery System

Temperature responsive polymers can achieve environmental response by sensing temperature.Such polymers are capable of self-feedback of temperature signals to release the entrapped drug or to suspend release,which can enhance the persistence and specificity of the drug release and improve the efficacy and safety of the drug greatly.Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM)is the most studied temperature-responsive polymer,and poly(N-vinylcaprolactam)(PNVCL)is second only to PNIPAM as a temperature-responsive polymer.The temperature responsive polymer not only has a phase transition temperature close to physiological temperature,but also has good biocompatibility,biodegradability,and no toxicity.Therefore,PNVCL has a wide applications in medical devices,biomedicine,etc.,especially as a drug delivery vehicle.This review highlights the comparison of PNVCL and PNIPAM in terms of biological properties.The latest published applications of PNVCL have been studied in depth through selected examples,particularly in drug delivery systems.The results show that PNVCL will play a key role in nanotechnology and environmental applications.
