Measurement of the Leaf Area Index and the Percentage of Vegetation by Using Image Analysis

This paper presents the method of how to measure the leaf area index and the percentage of vegetation by using the general digital camera and image processing most in use.It clarifies the basic requirement of camera and image processing as well as artificial intervention.The effects of the height and the slope angle of camera is discussed.The relative reliable way is using fixed minor slope angle of supporting rod or trestle and changing the height of camera to obtain different sample area.It also narrates how to select resolving power as well as effects in the measurement of the percentage of vegetation.The method of how to measure the leaf area index which the paper inwlves only applicable to general weeds and crops.
