Fe-Mediated Living Precipitation Polymerization of MMA in Alcohol/Water

Alcohol/water as solvent,the poly(methyl methacrylate) was prepared with methyl methacrylate(MMA) as monomer,CCl4 as initiator,Fe Cl3·6H2O as catalyst,PPh3 as ligand and VC as reducing agent. The effect of polymerization reaction time,stirring,amount of monomer MMA,Fe Cl3·6H2O and VC on the conversion of PMMA were studied. The results showed that the polymerization rate increased in the condition of stirring.In addition,the polymeration rate increased with increasing the amount of MMA,Fe Cl3·6H2O,VC. The polymerization reaction time was 5 h and 5. 5 h,respectively. The usage of Fe Cl3·6H2O and VC was 0. 5 g and 0.75 g,respectively. The PMMA was characterized by IR.
