Effect of Low Temperature on the Content of Cold-tolerant Substances in the Adult of Brontispa longissima(Gestro)

After short-term low temperature treatment on the adults of Brontispa longissima,the impact of low temperature on the content of free water,saccharides(total carbohydrate,trehalose,glycogen),glycerol and fat in adults was studied.The results revealed the amount of free water was sharply declined from 67.10% to 45.11%,and total carbohydrate was slightly decreased from 19.82(μg/mg)to 18.00(μg/mg),while the content of trehalose,glycogen,glycerol and fat showed large accumulation compared to the control groups.Trehalose was increased from 3.22(μg/mg)to 5.88(μg/mg);glycogen was increased from 1.12(μg/mg)to 4.46(μg/mg);glycerol was increased from 11.45(μg/mg)to 15.10(μg/mg);fat was increased from 6.43% to 8.14%.The study indicated that B.longissima could defend cold-hardiness and the main antifreezes in adult of B.longissima were trehaloseglycogen-glycogen-fat.
