Comparison of Fruit Storability and Quality Changes between Harvested ‘Fuyan’ and ‘Dongbi’ Longan Fruits

‘Fuyan’ longan(Dimocarpus longan Lour.cv.Fuyan)and ‘Dongbi’ longan(Dimocarpus longan Lour.cv.Dongbi)were the chief longan cultivars in Fujian Province in China.The differences of fruit storability and quality changes between harvested‘Fuyan’and‘Dongbi’ longans at(8±1)℃ and 85% relatively humidity were comparatively investigated.The results showed as follows: As compared to ‘Fuyan’ longans,there were better fruit storability,higher rate of salable fruit,and lower fruit weight loss,pericarp browning index,aril breakdown index and aril browning degree in harvested ‘Dongbi’ longans during storage.At harvest day,there were higher contents of total soluble solids(TSS),total sugars,vitamin C in aril of ‘Dongbi’ longans than that of ‘Fuyan’ longans.During storage,there were lower changes of TSS,titratable acid,total sugars and vitamin C in aril of ‘Dongbi’ longans than that of ‘Fuyan’ longans,and at the same storage time,there were higher contents of TSS,total sugars and vitamin C in aril of ‘Dongbi’ longans than ‘Fuyan’ longans.From the results it can be concluded that ‘Dongbi’ longans have better fruit storability.
