Infiltration of Se into Artificial Opal by Chemical Reduction

A new method has been proposed to modify the photonic band gap of synthetic opal.Chemical reduction method was used to infill the voids in the synthetic opal with Se.The resulted photonic crystals composed of Se-SiO_2 composite are characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction and VIS-NIR spectroscopy.It is shown that Se nanoparticles with high crystalline quality are homogeneously distributed on the surface of silica spheres after Se infilling,and the peak wavelength of reflectance spectrum suffers a red shift.
