Catalytic Synthesis of α-Fe_2O_3 Nanoparticles in Solution and the Control for Their Surface State

Nanosized α-Fe_2O_3 particles were synthesized using Fe(OH)_3 as precursor and trace Fe(II) as a catalyst.The effect of various factors on the product was studied.The experimental results show that the heating rate and appropriate amount of catalyst are key factors to the purity of the product.The formation condition for Fe(OH)_3 gel has a great influence on the size,surface and uniformity of α-Fe_2O_3 particles.The phase transformation from Fe(OH)_3 gel to α-Fe_2O_3 particles can be completed in 0.5h when pH=7,n_(Fe(II))/n_(Fe(III))=0.02 and the initial concentration for Fe(OH)_3 gel is 0.5mol/L.
