Thermal Conductivity of (La_(0.75)Sm_(0.25))_2Zr_2O_7 Ceramic

The(La0.75Sm0.25)2Zr2O7 was prepared by solid reaction method using Sm2O3,La2O3 and ZrO2 as raw materials.The phase composition and microstructure of the sample were studied by XRD,FT-IR and SEM technology respectively.The thermal conductivities of sample in the range between ambient and 800°C were also measured using laser-flash method.XRD and FT-IR results reveal that single phase(La0.75Sm0.25)2Zr2O7 with pyrochlore structure was synthesized,and the SEM shows that the microstructure of the product is dense and no other phases existe among the particles,and the sizes of particles are uniform.Because of the difference in mass and ion radius between Sm3+ and La3+,(La0.75Sm0.25)2Zr2O7 ceramic has more lower thermal conductivity than La2Zr2O7.The thermal conductivity of this ceramic was also lower than that of YSZ apparently.These results imply that(Sm0.25La0.75)2Zr2O7 may be used as a candidate material for the ceramic layer in TBCs system.
