Study on the Preparation of Flake Cordierite Powder

Cordierite powders were prepared by flake kaolin,talc and alumina as raw materials and sintered at 1350 ℃ for 2 h.The crystal structure and morphology of synthesized cordierite powers were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and TEM.It can be seen that the synthesized cordierite powers are flake structure,of high purity and better crystallization by using the flake kaolin with a small amount of impurities.The effect of the different quantities cordierite grog on the thermal expansion coefficient was studied aiming for the difficulty of the nucleation.Grog powders can be as genus during sintering which conduce to forming cordierite nuclei.Adding a certain amount of cordierite grog can help to form cordierite and low the coefficient of thermal expansion.
