Hydrothermal Synthesis of Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG) Micro-crystals

Y3Al5O12 micro-crystals were synthesized by hydrothermal method,with Al(OH)3 and Y2O3 as precursor,3 mol/L KOH as mineralizer in this paper.The reaction time and temperature was 24 h and 430 ℃,respectively.The structure and morphology of the production were studied by XRD and SEM.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA) techniques were conducted to determine the thermal characteristics.The result show that the composition and the morphology of complex were different by changing the ratio of Y to Al.When the ratio of Y to Al was 1∶3,pure YAG crystals were synthesized,the morphology of crystals was cube and the biggest length exceeded 100 μm.
