Thermal Residual Stress Analysis of TiN Coating on Titanium Alloy Substrate

Thermal residual stresses in TiN coatings were calculated by the finite element method.The influences of substrate and coating thickness on the thermal stress of TiN coating were investigated.The results show that the high tensile stress occurs in the substrate and the high compressive stress occurs in the coating,singularity field of shear stress occurs in sharp interface near the free boundary.The radial stress in coating layer decreases while the shear stress first increases then tends to be steady with increasing coating thickness.The radial stress in coating layer increases with increasing substrate thickness and the increasing tendency becomes slow when substrate thickness is above 1 mm.
