Influences of Additive Si on Diamond Synthesis Using NiMnCo as Catalyst

The effect of additive Si on the growth character of diamonds synthesized using Ni-Mn-Co powder catalyst has been studied in this paper.Different content of amorphous Si powder was directly added to Ni-Mn-Co-C system and then the system was uniformly mixed.The synthesis experiments were carried out in a cubic anvil high-pressure apparatus.The results indicate that the minimum pressures for diamond formation changed with the difference of Si content,so did the position of V-shape region.The diamond synthesis in Ni-Mn-Co-C and Ni-Mn-Co-C-Si system has been researched.Using optical microscope,it was found that there was little color difference between the diamonds grown in the two systems.With the increase of Si content,the crystal perfection decreased,and the inclusions increased.XPS detection indicates that there was SiC in the synthetic diamond.
