Influence of Surfactant on the Synthesis of Pyrite (FeS_2)

In order to explore simple process and low-cost synthetic methods of pyrite type FeS2,well-crystallized pyrite with pure phase was synthesized in this paper by two methods: a high-pressure solvothermal process and a microwave hydrothermal process.Besides,the effects of different surfactants upon the features of the synthesized pyrite powder were also explored.On that basis,the growth mechanism of pyrite type FeS2 by microwave hydrothermal process was discussed.The results showed that pure phase and well-crystallized pyrite type FeS2 can be obtained by above-mentioned processes.Well-suspended globular particles are acquired through high-pressure solvothermal process with PVP and PEG-4000 added in it.The phase had tiny changed and large amounts of flaky globular particles were acquired between surfactant present and absent by microwave hydrothermal process,but the state of granules dispersion had an effectively improve while adding SDS and SDBS.In the microwave hydrothermal process,we found that nucleation and growth of the pyrite type FeS2 were governed by a growth mechanism of "ball formation nuclear-flaky particles growed on ball particle-grow up to flaky globular particles".
