Synthesis and Optical Properties of FeVO_4 Nanorods

Using Fe(NO3)3·9H2O and NH4VO3 as raw materials,FeVO4 nanorods were fabricated by a direct and simple hydrothermal process.The structure and morphologies of the as-prepared FeVO4 nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),thermogravimetric analysis(TG),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM).UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectrum(UV-vis DRS) shows that the as-prepared FeVO4 nanorods present strong absorption in a wide range from UV to visible light and the band gap was measured to be 2.13 eV.The photocatalytic activity of FeVO4 nanorods was characterized by degradation of methyl orange solution.The result indicates that the degradation rate reaches 93.6% after 90 min UV irradiation.
