Synthesis and Characterization of SiC /SiC Composite via In-situ Method

SiC /SiC composites were prepared by in-situ reaction of carbon and silicon through conventional synthesis sintering. Carbon source and silicon source were introduced by filter paper coated with silicon powder phenolic resin mixture suspension. SiC nanowires phase composition and microstructures were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDAX. The growth mechanism was also investigated. The result shows that the prepared nanowires possess smooth surface,uniform-sized and aspect ratio up to 103at 1430 ℃. The growth mechanism of the nanowires is supported by VS growth model. A new way of prepared SiC / SiC composite by one step was proposed.
